Garry Michael Kann has been a prominent corporate finance professional in the United States on both the East and West Coasts SINCE 1987 . Over that time, he has been recognized as an innovator in the development of specialized asset backed financial instruments and has worked with clientele around the globe including Europe, Asia, Central and South America.
As an investment banker he has completed more than 60 middle market transactions exceeding $2 billion in value structuring multi layered growth capital financings up and down the balance sheet as well as an experienced Leveraged Buyout professional and advising on/financing distressed situations. Previously, while in senior management positions for a wide variety of financial institutions serving the middle market, he structured and completed more than 200 transactions exceeding several billion dollars in value.
Besides being the Founder and CEO of Firebird Partners, Mr. Kann chaired the Capital Markets Group at Mosaic Capital LLC, a FINRA licensed Broker/Dealer and financial advisory firm located in Los Angeles, California, which he eventually purchased. He draws on many years of experience, both as a direct lender and as an investment banking intermediary, in underwriting, structuring, and closing complex financings involving multiple capital layers. To his credit, he has been integral in the creation of a number of innovative financing programs including the securitization of third party medical insurance receivables, as well as credit enhanced middle market corporate asset backed securities; these represented a viable alternative to traditional asset backed and cash flow lending.
Additionally, Mr. Kann is the designer and manager for F.I.R. E. Securities (Fixed Interest Rated EuroNotes). A bond style investment grade rated finance program structured under the laws of Ireland. FIRE Securities can be developed in the €400 Million to €950 Million + range. Firebird Partners acts as the Issue Development and Manager of the program.
In 1995, prior to joining Mosaic Capital and forming Firebird Partners, Mr. Kann successfully operated his own corporate finance firm, Kann Capital Ltd. Among Mr. Kann’s previous corporate finance success stories, but not limited to are the financing of eMachines ( Co-managing the LBO of a public company taken private), Hemdale Communications, Weslock-National, Koch Trucking, International Producers Alliance, Talent Metal Products, and Prologic Management Systems.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Kann was the Senior Vice President and served on the credit committee at Medical Funding Corporation. In addition to developing their credit underwriting policies, Mr. Kann was part of the team that developed a $50,000,000 AAA rated securitization of medical receivables assets which was used to finance client receivables.
Prior to Medical Funding, Mr. Kann was the New York tri-state area underwriter for the First California Capital Market Group’s VISTAS financing program (Variable Interest Short Term Adjustable Securities), which was a capital markets alternative to traditional bank/asset based and cash flow financing for middle market companies. Among First California’s more well-known clients financed under this program were: Alamo Rent-A-Car and U.S. Computer Systems Leasing.
Prior to First California, Mr. Kann was the Vice President of Operations for United Funding Capital Corporation (UFCC). UFCC specialized in providing non-conforming business financing to small and lower middle market companies. Mr. Kann was a member of the credit committee. In addition, he was responsible for underwriting programs for UFCC’s primary financing product, as well as developing relationships with secondary market buyers of the company’s loans once originated and closed.
Mr. Kann received his Bachelors degree from Kean University in New Jersey. He was previously certified by FINRA as a Registered Representative, a Securities Principal and securities compliance officer holding Series 7, Series 79 and Series 63 licenses as well as a Series 24 Securities Principal License. In addition, he is a former member of ProVisors (www.provisors.com), the leading alliance of trusted advisors and respected professionals serving middle market companies and their owners.
Mr. Kann is formerly a member of The Board of Directors for GameWorks Entertainment, a location-based entertainment company; Alpha Media Group, a specialty travel company; Weslock National Corp., a leading manufacturer of residential door locks; Talent Metal Products, a specialty precision machine parts manufacturer, and was a Vice President at Parigi Equity Partners, a private equity fund based in Milan, Italy.
